6 Month Height & Weight

Yesterday Scout had her 6 month appointment. Just thought I'd post her stats. Probably only new moms are concerned with these things. She weighs 17 pounds and is 28 inches long. Sort of tall and skinny, except not skinny. Have you seen this girl's rolls? Well she's got 'em. Riley always teases her about her belly hanging over her diaper and Tripp calls her "chub". There's just something about her....you can't resist commenting on her chubbiness.

Babysitters

This past week I went to a Quickbooks Training in Hereford. That's a whole other story, but we won't go there right now. Grams came on Wednesday night so that she would be here to babysit Scout on Thursday. I was gone from 7 until about 6:30 that evening. It was pretty hard on me and I think Scout missed me when she first woke up. Riley got home before I did and they were all just having a big time when I arrived. I mean wouldn't it be great to have everybody wrapped around your little finger.

On Friday I had to go back, so Sarah B and her kiddos babysat. By the way, Hope was in Ft. Worth that is why she didn't babysit. Scout was awake and I told her bye. I thought she might cry, but didn't. Even though you kind of want them to cry, it is a relief when they don't. I think she had a great time at Sarah's. Slade even sent his Bumbo seat home with Scout. Wasn't that sweet?

Happy 1/2 Birthday Scout!!

Ok, so yesterday Scout was 1/2 year old. I absolutely cannot believe how quickly the time has passed. Jess told me it was going to be this way, but seriously.... Now that we've got the rolling over thing down pretty well we are focusing on crawling. Maybe I should say her Daddy has started trying to teach her. In this video you'll notice how that all she wants to do is roll over. She probably thinks we're crazy since we used to try to get her to roll over and now we want her to stay on her tummy and crawl.

This picture is for Gramps. Riley and Scout figuring......she loves that calculator.

Hanging out with the Templeton Family!!

Last Saturday morning Scout and I visited the Templeton Family. It was fun to see Sutton for the first time. He is about 2 months younger than Scout, but just as big. He doesn't look like a chunk, but is pretty heavy. He was happy and soooo cute. I'm thinking he and Scout will have a good time together pretty soon.

I'm Thankful for.....

32 foot gooseneck trailers, Riley's big muscles, Tori's advice (or bossiness), Grandma-Ma's punkin' pie.......This is what Bob and Tam were saying on Thanksgiving Day!!

Riley, Scout, and I went down last Wednesday and started helping move all the big stuff. Sean, Missy, their girls, and Grandma-Ma showed up to help out. Sean pretty much saved my life. I'm strong (ha-ha), but can't exactly lift a piano above my head.

We got alot done and had fun doing it. Maybe we worked off some of that pie. Speaking of pie.... G-Ma made the traditional dinner (Riley would absolutely die if he didn't have turkey and dressing) and brought to the new house. It was great!!

Well....once again I am like forever behind. I guess I'll be that way for a little while, so just deal with it!! ---lol

On November 19th we attended Riley's Aunt Cindy's 50th bash. It was very tasteful....nicely done by Jaimi and Grandma-Ma. Clovis has a really nice Civic Center, at which Jaimi is the event planner person. We had a delicious dinner, lots of laughs (at her gag gifts), and enjoyed family.

WRCA - WCRR

Thought I'd try to confuse everyone a little. WRCA is Working Ranch Cowboys Association and WCRR is World Championship Ranch Rodeo. This little shindig took place in Amarillo, Texas about 2 weeks ago. I'm going to blame my late posting on my Sis-in-Law.....well not really her as much as the United States Postal Service. She of course took lots of really good pictures and I did not. I think I have about 7 from Sunday that are horrible. So....Kait mailed me a CD about a week and a half ago and I still have not received it. I should have done this a long time ago and just added pictures when I got them. I'm a little slow sometimes.

The Riley Smith Family

Preston, Scout Preston, & Mimi

We had a really great time. Pat, Scout, and I went up pretty early on Thursday and ran a few errands and shopped. Tandy and her boys came for the Thursday night performance. Riley, Tripp, and Autumn showed in the ranch horse competition on Friday. Riley qualified Gunner for the RHAA Finals in Abilene (May). Autumn was the only girl in her class and she placed 2nd......think we are a little proud? She did great!! Scout didn't get much of a nap, so she was too happy at the rodeo on Friday night. Brook and Kait arrived Friday afternoon so we were extra glad to seem them, but not as glad as they were to see Scooter. (Note: Only I am allowed to call her this name.....not sure if we want that to stick. Hope and her bunch call her Scootie.)

Uncle Brook, Scout, & Aunt Kait

On Saturday morning Scout caught up on her sleep. She slept from 9 until 12 and then we had to wake her up. We ate lunch with the Smith Crew and then watched Summer show in the ranch horse competetion. She was also the only girl and placed 4th. I'm telling you.....you should see Alotofbull get around. I couldn't ride him. Summer did awesome!! By the way......Check out the December issue of Western Horseman for a little piece about Alotofbull and Tripp.

Riley heeling!

Summer & Riley

I've been forgetting to tell how the rodeo was going this whole time. Sandhill got a no time first thing on Thursday, didn't have any milk in the cowmilking on Friday.....you get the idea. They just started out on the wrong foot. By Saturday they were doing pretty well and on Sunday they kicked some hiney. We're pretty sure they set the arena record in the penning with a 34 second run.

Sandhill in the cow milking.

Sooo.....we had a very full, fun weekend. We were pooped, but glad to see everyone and get away from Earth for awhile.

New Blog Look

So the new blog look seems to be a hit. How could you not love polka-dots and damask in brown and turquoise? You've probably noticed "kristi's kringles" on my blog and put 2 and 2 together, but I will spell it out anyways. Here's how the story goes.........

A few years ago I went to work at Muleshoe for a super sweet principal. He ended up leaving and going to Kileen, TX (which I was very sad about). Kristi is his super sweet wife. She does all kinds of neato stuff (blogs, cards, announcements, etc.) You should check out her stuff. She is also "Kristi" on my list of people we keep up with. Oh and did I mention that she is very reasonable on her pricing?

Roll Over, Red Rover......

OK, so it is sort of an inside joke......When we put Scout on her tummy and try to get her to roll over Riley always says, "Roll over, red rover". Not sure where he got that, actually think he just got confused once and it kind of stuck. Pretty sure it's supposed to be "come over" not "roll over".

Any who....Scout has rolled over a few times. The first time was Wednesday night and she did again today. I was sort of waiting to get it on camera before I posted but it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon. Of course every time the camera is in the other room she does it and when I'm prepared she acts like she doesn't even know how. She doesn't have it down that great, but she can if she really wants to. Today she is 5 months old and we've been waiting for this since she was 3 months. Oh well, I don't guess I care too much. I know our life is going to change drastically over the next 6 months.

Scout & Rylan

We were so excited to see Rylan Randall Smith yesterday. Rylan is Scout's cousin....for those who do not know......Riley's double cousin Grant (brothers married sisters) married my BFF Larkin. Confused yet?

We got a call about 9:15 yesterday morning that Riley's Grandpa Wayne (Smith) had a heart-attack. We headed straight for Amarillo. Grandpa Wayne seems to be doing well. I know it was questionable for awhile though. I haven't heard anything this morning, so things must be alright. It was unfortunate to meet in that situation, but we hadn't seen Rylan since July. Boy do these little ladies change in a hurry.

Scout only tried to eat Rylan once.....hilarious!! I can't wait until they're just a little bigger.

Cousins, cousins....

Yep I'm going out of order here, but that's just me.....kind of out of whack. On Thursday evening Riley, Scout, and I met G-Ma-Ma, Aunt Sis, Bryce & Jaimi, Blake, and Sean, Missy, Tylee, & Tailee for supper in Clovis. It was very nice to get to see everyone, too bad we don't get together more often. Try the salmon at Cotton Patch...it was delicious!!

Happy Halloween

Ok, so I've been waiting for this day for a few weeks now. Funny how I've never cared too much about Halloween until this year. I'm pretty sure it was more about me than Scout. I made the "tootsie roll". No it isn't perfect, but I must admit...I am very proud. We went to LaVerne's nursing home in Muleshoe yesterday and to Noma's nursing home in Olton today. Of course, things didn't really go as planned. There were a couple of different things that hindered our trick or treating.

#1 - Too HOT!! It is not supposed to be 85 on Halloween. I had a turtleneck for Scout to wear under the "tootsie roll", which is made of felt. Since it was so hot, we dug up a white onesie that was about 3 sizes too small. It would barely button and then it was pulling on her shoulders and hiked up her leg. Poor thing.

#2 - Hungry!! Scoutie was more interested in a bottle than entertaining those old people.

#3 - Sleepy!! Once we had the bottle and a car seat ride, we were too sleepy to trick or treat at Gran's (Hope's G-ma).

So...things didn't go perfectly, but I'd say she was a hit!! Am I bragging? Sorry, sometimes mommas just can't help that, can they?

L.A.Z.Y.

This past weekend Scout and I went to our family reunion. We had a great time!! Now to explain the L A Z Y.........Tandy did a great job posting about our little adventure, so please go to her blog and check it out.

6 things you might not know about me....

OK Tandy.....just for you.

1. I am a horrible driver. Been in lots of wrecks, starting in about the 4th grade. I blame Tripp and Tandy for this.

2. I was only in labor for about 2 and 1/2 hours with Scout. No epidural....nothing.

3. I hardly ever/never pay regular price for clothes.

4. I am more excited about my shiny black kitchen-aid mixer than most people are about a new car. Maybe this is because I won't be getting a new car anytime soon.

5. My left elbow comes out of socket very easily.

6. I love candy, cokes......any kind of sugar. I've been eating horribly since Scout was born.

RANCH STYLE BEANS

Ranch style beans!! It's like they are my best friend and my enemy too. Riley loves RS beans more than any other item in this world. (Well.....Chips Ahoy would be right up there.) He wants them with every meal or in every meal, which is easy for me. However, I don't feel that it is helping me grow into a good/gourmet cook like I would love to be. When I'm at the store buying 6 or 7 cans at a time I feel like people look in my basket and feel sorry for my poor husband. I want to have a sign explaining that this is his request.

The other Sunday evening......I can't remember what I had fixed for supper, but Riley "needed" beans and heaven forbid I had let us run out. He got all dressed up in shorts, t-shirt, sandals (with socks) and cap to head to Allsup's to get some. The whole time I'm sitting her thinking that if I needed him to go to the store for garlic or cream or something like that he would ask if he had to or if I could make do without it. Now here he is making a special trip for RS beans.

I have even made a pot of real beans that everyone claimed was tastey.....except for Riley. He sure didn't start requesting them. Maybe this "situation" is truly a reflection of my cooking. I must have yet to put a side dish before my food obssessed husband that can even compare with RS beans.

So help me out here people. Do your hubbies love, hate, tolerate....RS beans? What about you? What can I do here? Send me recipes/sympathy whatever you have.

Got My Hair Did!!

Friday evening Hope and Autumn babysat Scout for a couple of hours while I did some stuff at "work". I originally ask Summer to babysit, but she had a date. I can't believe she is old enough for that stuff. It seems like yesterday she was Scout's age. Ok....so I'll get back to the real story here.

Autumn did Scout's hair. She used a little water bottle and spiked it and even put a little clip in it. Hope said that Scout really got a kick out of it. Then she got to wear Autumn's wig and glasses. Pretty funny, huh!!

Getting her hair did!!

She already dislikes SCHOOL!!

So on Friday morning Scout and I got up early and headed to Muleshoe to see all of our friends at school (Watson Jr High, Muleshoe). I taught 8th grade Math there for two years. The folks there are pretty great and we were glad to see them. A few of them have seen Scout in Leal's or the grocery store, but it was the first meeting for most. Scout didn't really get a nap that morning and she was pretty sleepy. By the time we got to Lindy's room she started fussing and actually cried a little. That's why I said she already doesn't like school.

4 Months......Already???

Scout had her 4 month doctor appointment yesterday. She got four shots and an oral. I had been telling the nurse that she wasn't going to cry. Of course I didn't know that, just hoping. She never even made a face on the first two sticks and kind of hollered on the third and fourth. She quit crying before I even picked her up. What a big girl!! I am very proud of her.

Scout's 4 month stats:

Weight - 15 pounds (75th percentile)
Height - 26.25 inches (95th percentile)

I took Scout to Granny-Great's (Riley' grandma) house when we got to town. She looked after "tootsie" while I ran errands. I was able to meet Sarah for lunch and get alot done in a very short time. I think they had fun. Granny loaded Scout up in a shopping cart, with pillows and blankets of course, and they went visiting. I'm so sad that I don't have a picture of it. Next time I'll leave the stroller. Thank you granny!!

I must also report her two new tricks. She snorts like a pig. I have no idea where she got that, must be from the Smith or Creamer side. Ha Ha that's a joke. Tandy and I snort all the time when we laugh. I'm hoping Scout is just going through a phase. She doesn't always make a full snort, mostly she wrinkles her nose and blows air in and out.

Scout has also found her toes over the past couple of weeks. She even gets upset when she's in her carseat and can't get a foot in her mouth. Nothing like sucking on your big toe. So now we always have soggy socks. Yuck!!

Yummy Toes!!

Shipping Cattle

Last Wednesday, yes I know I'm a little behind, we went to Stinnett to ship cattle with Grams & Gramps Smith. Here are a couple pics from our short time there.

We pulled up and Gramps (Bob) was moving some cattle to a different pasture. Riley jumped on Gunner bareback to help. (You can see him in the distance.) I would have ended up on the ground if I had tried.

Scout and Grams stayed in the pickup while we gathered.

Here are a couple of pics of the critters. Gunner was about to knock me down when I tried taking pictures of him. He is such a big pet. It's almost like he's a dog in a horse body. Tug was so happy to get to "work". He stays home a lot during the summer when they don't have cattle turned out on pasture. There isn't much for him to do around the feedyard.

"What if she's SHY??"

Before Scout was born I would ask Riley...."What if she's shy?". He thought that was the funniest thing, considering who her mama is. He's not too shy either, so this didn't all come from just me. This afternoon Scout was really talking up a storm. She has this new funny voice. We never know what kind of sounds she'll make.

The Move

Scout has been sleeping in her bed, in her room for almost a week now. After she outgrew the Moses basket, she had been sleeping in her play yard at the foot of our bed. Everything was going fine, we just decided it's probably now or never. Our sweet girl has been sleeping all night since 6 weeks!! The transition went fine. I think she actually falls asleep easier without us distracting her.

When she wakes up we can hear her in there talking, laughing, kicking....just going wild. She is always so happy, but then after awhile she means business. That girl is "hun--grry". She has started waking up around 5:30 or 6:00 for a quick bite then she's back to sleep.

Scout sleeping "crazy" like her Daddy. Most nights she does a 180!!

NOT FOR SALE

Yesterday I had a garage sale here at the house. Hope, Summer, and Autumn came to help. Mostly to help with Scout. Summer dressed her, Autumn rocked her, and Hope made her giggle. That was such a big help. We had a really good time. I take that back......garage sales are no fun, but it was fun just hanging out. The best part is that now I have a clean garage. Maybe I should run take a picture of that.......naw, these pictures are better.

Hope put this "NOT FOR SALE" sign on Scout. I have to admit it was a pretty funny idea.

Scout and Summer were big pals. Here is another picture of them just chillin' in the lovely garage sale chair. (Recognize it Aunt Jody? I think it is the only thing we didn't get rid of. You don't want it back do ya?)

Centennial Celebration

The Springlake-Earth Centennial Celebration went down this past Friday. Hope was in charge of decorating and she did a really nice job. Now I wish we had taken a picture of it, but didn't. I could list off the events of the day, but it wasn't too big of a deal. Mimi & Papa, Pat, and KD, Tandy, Pake, & Tate came for the festivities. It was packed at the supper, but we stood around outside and chatted with family and classmates.

Scout had a special outfit just for the occasion. Gramma-Ma (Riley's grandma) sewed some green and gold onto her little pants and I ironed "2026" on her shirt, since she will be the Class of 2026. Sounds like forever away, but I know it will be here before we know it. Hope made a "too cute" bow to match. So...Scout was definitely sporting some school spirit.
